Pianist, composer, and arranger Marcus Persiani possesses an expansive musical vocabulary and experience.
Marcus Persiani's compositions and arrangements were featured on the brilliant trilogy of albums recorded by Mario Bauza, including the Grammy-nominated album, “944 Columbus.” As house pianist with the Sugar Hill Jazz Quartet for the world-famous Monday Night Ja Sessions at the historic St. Nick’s Pub, led by highly acclaimed tenor saxophonist, Patience Higgins, Marcus has played with such luminaries as George Coleman, Eddie Henderson, Freddie Hubbard, Wynton Marsalis, Cassandra Wilson, James Carter, and Lewis Nash.
Steeped in the traditions of jazz and the blues, he possesses an expansive musical vocabulary that allow him to move deftly across genres. As a testament to his versatility, he’s played with artists that include Mario Bauza, Willi Colon, Jerry Gonzalez, the Impressions, Dizzy Gillespie, Max Roach, Cecil McBee, Tito Puente, Carlie Persip’s Supersound, Vanessa Rubin, the Apollo Theater Showtime Band and many more.

As a piano player, Marcus has been a steady, vital presence in New York City’s uptown jam-session scene. In his role as leader, Persiani has just released a new CD, “Uptown Suite.” It features original compositions that capture Harlem in its many musical tones and colors, from the blues, “Stoney Island,” paying homage to his Chicago roots, to the Latin-jazz-waltz “Mineret.”
